Goals
For the new year I am aiming for 8000 new subscribers (500 a month). I kind of have to laugh when last year I set a goal for 1000 subscribers - I am aiming a bit higher this time. I also want to get an internship or work experience at a design studio in Sydney. I also want to work more on my illustration and 3D design skills, the areas in which I think I could do with the most improvement.
What are your goals? I need some ideas!
What am I doing now & later?
At present I have a few design jobs that I am working on… I am in the process of designing a luxury refillable water bottle for a client in the US, a logo for a supermarket in Curacao, a logo for a barn maker in the US, a website for a Wedding Florist & Decorator, a website for a Celebrant, a photography job for Tupperware and I also have got two separate leads for a vodka bottle design and also a rum based liquor bottle, plus about 5 other logo design leads which will hopefully come through. I may also be launching a new blog next year so stay tuned for that. Plus, I have a few other surprises
I have also lined up some writing gigs on Smashing Magazine, Web Designer Depot, VectorTuts, Freelance Folder and the UK Creative Pool.
On the lighter side of life, I have just come back from a week long holiday up our holiday house for Christmas, had my 21st birthday (had a cruise on Sydney harbour with dinner & drinks) and in January I am going for a week long road trip up to the Gold Coast (8 hours north) for a festival & holiday. I also have a two week holiday to Thailand scheduled for February. University will then start back in March and I will have to get back to the real life.
I have also booked a ski trip over in New Zealand in August 2009 so looking forward to that too. At some stage I also have to fit in a trip to China as well (was my 21st birthday present) and in 2010 I plan to go to Canada to work as a ski instructor on the slopes but we will see how that goes. In short, I will be a busy boy.
What about you? What are you working on and what have you got planned?

I always enjoy seeing the success of the people I like. Keep it up! I’m also going to do a post like this in the next few days, it’s a great way to let people behind the scenes for those of us who don’t regularly blog about that.

First off, Happy belated birthday! You’ve got quite the inspiring story. That sort of growth in a year is encouraging.
Since starting my blog about 3 weeks ago it’s been a daily improvement on the one before. I can see how you’re now buried in clients! Keep up the good work, you deserve the success sir!

Congratulations on achieving your goals and hopefully for the new year you will be able to do the same. It does seem that you have created a nice group of frequent readers and have reached out to many. Good luck in the future and I hope everything is successful for you.

Hey Jacob, loved reading your plans for the new year. It is truely amazing just how busy your schedule is.
I recently wrote a blog post for my plans in 2009, although it’s nowhere near as action packed as yours. If anyone is interested then please feel free to have a look.

Allow me to be honest Jacob: this site is not insightful, and that is the purpose of a blog’s existence. My advise: switch markets from the professional space and apply towards college students.
It’s a pretty clear that you’ve never worked for anyone but yourself; maybe you should get a few more years of experience working with a team. Your writing exposes delusions of grandeur and naivety.
You could do a lot more with your drive and productivity.
Jacob Share from Group Writing Projects (@jacobshare) on Jan 7, 2009 said:
Alex, I don’t know how honest you’re being because…
a) There’s no website behind your name to prove that you know what you’re talking about
b) The disconnect between your words and the reality of Jacob’s blogs makes me wonder if your message is simply a spam comment that slipped through Jacob’s filter.
Jacob Cass (@justcreative) on Jan 7, 2009 said:
Alex,
It is always funny to see people who leave such comments never leave any traceback or website, I wish they did because I actually do want to discuss matters such as these. Could you provide some examples to back up your statements?
I would also like to say that if the website was not resourceful, how would one accumulate such a following, including many who are practising, professional designers?
